Fleet and Safety Manager

Denver Intermodal Express, Inc. is currently looking for an ambitious, highly organized, results-oriented Fleet and Safety Manager. This position will be based out of the Denver area managing the safety programs over three distribution facilities and a fleet of 100 trucks. We are looking for a candidate with a background and experience in trucking, facility safety, fleet management, and overall experience with DOT and HOS regulations.

Primary Purpose:

This position directs the transportation and facility safety management process and provides overall support and guidance to the operational functions of a 31 year transportation/distribution company. The Manager coordinates with Transportation Operations leadership team in crafting short and longer term strategies in building a culture of safety within the Transportation organization. The Manager introduces and oversees systems and activities to maintain oversight of regulatory compliance status; provides training and professional development for management and CMV operators; coordinates and manages the capacity of drivers needed to meet operational demands; conducts audits and inspections of the transportation safety management process; and monitors metrics reflecting performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • -  Maintain all company Insurance policies and files. (Auto, facilities, and comprehensive). Includes, but not limited to, working claims and audits, accident investigation, workers compensation, cargo, and issuing COI's to customer.

  • -  Develop and maintain department budget, monitoring vendor expenses and identifying cost savings to maximize profits while keeping operations efficient

  • -  Extensive management of fleet safety and compliance programs, both Federal and State. Monitoring and auditing renewals and inspections of: MC150, Hazmat, FMCSA, DOT, HOS, and IFTA

  • -  Assuring DOT drug / alcohol program is compliant with regulations

  • -  Manage and maintain all facility safety and compliance programs. (Fire inspections, code inspections, permitting and

    safety plans

  • -  Responsible for driver recruiting, screening, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and facilitating company training

    program to meet operational demands

  • -  Maintain company equipment list to manage preventative maintenance, annual inspections, repairs. Equipment

    includes Reefers, dry vans, flatbeds, chassis, boxvans, and semi-trucks

  • -  Keep updated fleet rosters identifying needs for local, regional, and over the road drivers

  • -  HOS/EOBR equipment installation for all trucks

  • -  Manage all vendor relationships pertaining to the fleet and safety functions of the company. HOS, Insurance, fire

    preventions, emergency support, truck and equipment leases

  • -  Manage the company fuel card program for the fleet of 80-100 trucks

    Skills/Knowledge Required:

  • -  Intermediate knowledge of Word/Excel/PowerPoint

  • -  Intermediate knowledge of Analytical Tools JJ Keller, Lytx, VIntermodal) and other logistics software

  • -  Working knowledge of the performance management/ monitoring systems

  • -  Working knowledge of federal and state safety laws, particularly FMCSR & OSHA standards

  • -  Analysis and identification of risk trends, problems and solutions

  • -  Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely using appropriate mediums (for example, face-to-face, e-mail, and

    presentations), listen effectively, demonstrate understanding, and clarify meaning for other.

  • -  Ability to analyze, define, diagnose, and resolve problems based on sound logic and rationale

  • -  Ability to develop, coach, and mentor others including the ability to provide development experiences and network

    opportunities, advise, and teach to prepare others for effective job performance

  • -  Ability to interact cooperatively and collaboratively with others as a team, including those holding divergent and/or

    opposing views and goals

  • -  Understand and apply meaningful operations and safety performance metrics

  • -  Ability to lead and influence in a matrix organization

  • -  Ability to plan and execute events, safety meetings, accident review meetings, and safety celebrations

  • -  Develop and communicate informative presentations and strategies for employees and managers to gain

    understanding and consensus

  • -  Possess extensive knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910 regulations Education and Experience
